PD: Wilmington man assaulted in Blanchester

BLANCHESTER —Police are seeking both the victim and his assailants after they say a man was assaulted Sunday.

At around 5 a.m. Sunday Blanchester police were dispatched to the 500 block of North Broadway Street where five individuals were reportedly in a fight. Ptl. Mike Keller responded and requested assistance from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, who sent several deputies to the scene.

“Upon his arrival Ptl. Keller learned that four individuals had fled prior to his arrival,” said Police Chief Scott Reinbolt. “A fifth individual had been found unconscious in the street and was removed from the street by a good samaritan who took him into her home and rendered first aid until the police arrived.”

Police said the man was identified as a 19-year-old Wilmington resident, who was bloody and suffered a blow to the head. He was unable to identify his attackers.

An ambulance from Blanchester EMS responded to the scene and transported the man to Clinton Memorial Hospital, and he was released later that morning.

“The police department has attempted to contact the man over the past 16 hours to no avail,” Reinbolt said. “A relative at his last known address told officers he is transient.”

No motive for the assault has been determined and police continue to attempt to locate the victim to obtain additional details, said Reinbolt.

“We are appreciative of the assistance of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office in this case, and wish to express our gratitude to the citizen who found the victim in the street and rendered aid to him,” he added.
