After two seasons, Bennie Carroll has resigned as the varsity girls basketball coach at Blanchester High School.

“I thoroughly enjoyed coaching the girls,” said Carroll, who had coached boys sports most of his career. “In my coaching career, it was probably the best four years I’ve had.”

Carroll coached the junior varsity girls two years prior to becoming the varsity coach.

In two seasons, Carroll and the Ladycats were 30-16 and won the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division championship in 2016.

“This was a tough decision; I will miss it,” said Carroll.

Carroll is the director and founder of the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic. Ultimately, the ability to run that tournament and coach basketball ran head-on into each other.

“I felt like if I was going to keep running the (OVHC), I couldn’t do both and be fair to either one,” said Carroll.

Carroll coached basketball 27 years and was a baseball coach nine years. He coached basketball at Blanchester, Georgetown and Wilmington High Schools in Ohio and West Carter High School in Kentucky.

“I felt in fairness to the (girls basketball) program, they needed to have someone who could give them more time,” he said.
