PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — A day after the team’s perfect record ended, Clinton-Massie found perfection in its pitching staff.

Taylor Florea and Claire Carruthers combined to pitch a perfect game Tuesday as the Lady Falcons got back on the winning track with a 17-0 win over Mercyhurst (Pa.) in Pigeon Forge.

The win puts the Lady Falcons, ranked No. 3 in this week’s Ohio High School Softball Coaches Association Div. II poll, at 13-1 on the year.

“We swung the bats much better today,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “Felt good to come back and get this win. The intensity level was high and the girls were ready.”

Clinton-Massie was the visiting team and pushed 12 runs across the plate in the opening frame.

From there, it was all pitching as Florea and Carruthers, who got the win, pitched five innings and struck out 10 batters. They did not allow any of the Mercyhurst hitters to reach base.
