After sharing last 2 years, CM baseball wins title outright this season

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Weston Trampler pitched a three-hitter as Clinton-Massie won its fourth straight South Central Ohio League baseball championship with an 11-0 win Monday over East Clinton at Paul Schwamberger Field.

The Falcons are 17-6 overall and 12-2 in the SCOL. The Astros are 4-14.

Clinton-Massie shared the league title each of the last two seasons — 12-2 last year and 11-3 in 2015. Massie won the outright title with a 13-1 record in 2014.

Seniors AJ Perkins, Isaiah Turner, Zach Dillow, Trey Leforge, Noah Greathouse, Aric France and David Poynter were honored following the varsity game Monday.

“I was glad we came out and played a little tonight,” CM coach Brian Camp said. “We took care of what we had to take care of to win the league championship, to win the league title outright.”

The seniors all played except Poynter, who missed the game but was on hand for the post-game ceremony.

“We were fortunate enough to not only win the league outright, but we got everybody (on hand) into the game,” Camp said. “It was nice for the seniors.”

On a cool and windy day for baseball, Clinton-Massie jumped out early, putting three runs on the board in the first and seven more in the second.

“I think we were ready to play,” said Camp.

Jacob Wolf had a double, triple and three runs batted in. Luke Richardson had two hits and two runs batted in. Greathouse scored three runs.

From there, it was all Trampler as he handcuffed the Astros on three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three for his third win of the year.
