The Wilmington High School baseball team closed out its regular season schedule with a 3-2 loss to Chillicothe in eight innings.

The South Central Ohio League defeat leaves the Hurricane at 13-6 overall and 10-4 in league play.

WHS seniors were honored prior to the game. The seniors are Drew Carey, Tyler Wells, Chad Davis, Josh Piechocki, Chris Wolary and Ryan Hottinger.

“I was disappointed the way we celebrated our seniors,” WHS coach Dusty James said. “We seemed flat out of the gate and that was unexpected. They are a great group of kids who are all going on to do great things. They have left some great memories with fellow players and the coaching staff. I wish them nothing but the best. The good thing is, we have one more chance to win their last home game tomorrow against Talawanda.”

The Hurricane will host the Braves in a Div. I sectional game at 5 p.m. at WHS. Admission is $5.

Wilmington left 12 runners on base. “Our kids put the ball in play but it was one of those days where we hit it right at them and they made the routine plays,” James said.

Stephen Krause and Zach Wyrick both had two hits. Davis, Wells and Hottinger had one hit each for WHS. Wolary and Kyler Reed drove in the Hurricane run.

James lamented the five combined wild pitches or passed balls by Wilmington. “We made some mental mistakes that led to physical mistakes late in the game,” he said.

Hottinger and Brett Bell pitched for WHS. Hottinger pitched into the fifth, allowing two earned runs and five hits. Bell pitched 3 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. He gave one unearned run.

Senior Tyler Wells had one of the Hurricane hits Monday.
