The Clinton County Leadership Institute held its annual Graduation and Project Presentation Thursday evening in the McCoy Room at Wilmington College. From left are Leadership Clinton 2017 graduates Dawn Shumaker, Jaime Simmons and Bret Fox, the Clinton County Leadership Council’s (and 2002 graduate) Cathy Koerner, and 2017 graduates Josh Sams, Deanne Thatcher and Latasha Ruddle. Graduates unable to attend the event were Brian Hickam and Tyler Schrock.

Dale Lynch, a lifelong Fayette County resident, longtime community and school leader and currently a three-term member of Washington Court House City Council, was the event’s keynote speaker. He encouraged local residents to find their purpose in life, quoting Mark Twain: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

Earning special recognition as Outstanding Community Leaders were, from left: Marvin Bond — “Through his involvement in the Sabina area the community enjoys recreation, leadership and a consistent positive role model”; Nancy McDermott — “As a coordinator for gifted children in the county she has assisted our youth to have opportunities to excel and has expanded on those benefits, sharing her talents in her volunteer positions”; and Mark Denniston — “By sharing his positive outlook, Mark has added leadership talents to his church, Wilmington College and Leadership Clinton.”

Josh Sams spoke for the group about its community project of holding a disc golf fundraising event that raised more than $10,000 for the Clinton County Youth Council.

Past and current LC graduates and local leaders gather prior to the start of the ceremony.

The LC ‘17 class takes the cake … or at least they would have a taste later.
