Clinton County eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• Speedway, 900 S. South St., Wilmington, June 8. Follow-up. There is a nonworking light in the reach-in cooler. The hand sink is dirty. there is trash on the floor by the syrup boxes. The cove molding by the 3-compartment sink is coming off. The wall behind the 3-compartment sink and the mop sink is dirty. There is trash on the floor throughout the back rooms. There is trash on the floor of the walk-in cooler. The wall behind sandwich food prep is dirty and has dust accumulation. Wall beside fountain pop has dirt/debris. The counter under microwave covered with red slip-resistant material and dirty. The counter under cup holders has red slip-resistant material that is dirty and counter underneath is broken. There is a counter door behind hot dog roller that is broken (surface coming off). Floor between service cabinets in front is dirty. Overall sanitation throughout facility needs improvement. [Editor’s Note: The previous sentence was underlined on the report.] (2nd Notice on all.) There is a mouse trap under grab-and-go sandwich cooler.

• Subway (inside Wal-Mart), 2825 SR 73 S, Wilmington, June 13. The following violations have been corrected: 2.4, 2.3, 33.2, 3.1, 4.1, 4.4, 4.5, 3.4, 4.5, 4.8, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4. Thank you.

The PIC is not Class II food safety certified. The cove molding is broken by the doorway in back room. There is mildew on caulking behind 3-compartment sink and prep sink.

Follow-up: June 22.

• Eagles Lodge #1224, 141 E. Sugartree St., Wilmington, June 14. Critical: Mice droppings observed on towel and floor next to mop sink. Observed roach powder at bar (Is there a current issue at the bar?). Air gap or backflow prevention device is not visible at mop sink. Hose (from faucet) is attached to dispensing system that then has tube from there resting in mop sink. Backflow and cross connections must be prevented.

Level 2 food certification unavailable. Verification employees are informed and know when to report illness is unavailable. Handles of ice scoop found in ice. Seasoning mix (salt and pepper blend?) is missing label. Soda bibs stored on floor. Probe thermometer unavailable. Glasses at bar found stored on cloths. Ice scoop on shelf next to ice machine was pitted (in poor condition). Outlet cover missing on outlet at wall next to box freezer. Light ceiling fixture above icemaking machine is nonworking. Wall below dispensing system at mop sink area is damaged/stained/has black residues (mold?). Wall tiles behind soap dispenser in men’s restroom are missing. Thermometer in refrigerator was not working.

Follow-up: June 21.

• J&S Petro III, 7111 SR 73 W, Wilmington, June 2. Follow-up #3. Violations corrected: 2.4, 6.1, 4.5. Critical: Mouse droppings observed in cabinet below beverage equipment. PIC commented the area was cleaned last night and this morning. Receipt from Terminix is dated 5/31/17. The mouse problem appears to be active. Suggest removing all storage items in cabinet, clean cabinet counter and equipment. Remove mice, work with Terminix and monitor area.

A/C is out of order. Facility thermostat temperature reads 86°F.

Follow-up: June 30.

• Papa John’s Pizza, 1561 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, June 7. There was an employee beverage (open can) sitting on the pizza-cutting table. There was no thermometer inside the small black refrigerator. The inside door shelf on the small black refrigerator was cracked/broken. There is dust/dirt accumulation on vent hoods of pizza oven. The wall behind the 3-compartment sink is dirty. The wall behind the hand sink is dirty. The caulking around the 3-compartment sink has mold/dirt accumulation. There is cracked floor tile around the pizza oven. The hand sink by the prep line has dirt/moldy caulking around the outside edge. The latch of the walk-in cooler is missing and the door can not close properly.

Follow-up: July 6.

• Caesar Creek BP, 7126 SR 73, Wilmington, June 2. Follow-up #3. Violations corrected: 6.4. The following need correction: Level 2 certification unavailable.

• Wilmington Middle School, 275 Thorne Ave., Wilmington, May 30. Follow-up. The walk-in freezer has accumulation of ice around door and light fixture is full of condensation, ice and water laying in the cover. The second walk-in freezer has ice accumulation around the door. This is the third violation on large walk-in cooler. Because of water and condensation in light I will request a fire inspection.
