Clinton County eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• Kirkwood Camp and Conference Center, 5719 SR 73 West, Wilmington, June 19.Critical: Observed Rice Krispies Treats, sliced tomatoes and cheese slices on display for customers with no sneeze guard. Cartons of chicken eggs found in True reach-in cooler above butter/margarine. Several RTE TCS foods found with expired or missing date mark. Warewash machine is not properly sanitizing food contact surfaces. Observed mouse droppings in cabinet below drink dispenser in dining room facility. PIC commented they are working with Terminix. Recommend moving storage items, cleaning and monitoring area.

FSO is owned by Matthew 25 Ministries. Please update license holder information. Food handlers were not wearing hair restraints. Verification demonstrating employees have been informed when to report illness unavailable. Written procedures for clean up of vomit/diarrhea accidents unavailable. Chlorine test strips unavailable. Sponges and cloths found in hand sink. Black residues observed on wall and floor at warewash machine. Cove trim not secure/missing below prep sink. Restroom door was propped open in kitchen.

• Kirkwood Camp and Conference Center, 5719 SR 73 West, Wilmington, June 26. Follow-up. Violations corrected: 2.3, 2.4, 3.2, 3.4, 4.2, 4.4. The following require improvement/correction: Cleaning tools found in hand sink. Critical: Observed mouse droppings in cabinet below drink dispenser in dining room. Facility must adequately control pests. PIC stated Terminix is scheduled to set up treatment devices at interior and exterior of facility.

• McDonald’s, 5843 US 68 N, Wilmington, June 26. Ice cream toppings located at the machine behind and under the soda boxes in the back. The floor under the ice cream machine was dirty. The cove molding by the drive-thru was cracked and broken. There was a toilet in the women’s restroom that was leaking around the bottom/floor seal. There was broken cove molding in the men’s restroom. Girl working at counter had hair in long ponytail (hung halfway down her back) was making drinks/coffee/beverages and fries. Employee had on hat but hair was long enough that it swung around when loose. Clean towels stored in bucket with no sanitizer solution.

• Kroger, 1230 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, June 29. There is no employee in the store that has Class II food safety certification that can be verified. PIC stated several employees have taken the test, but no certifications available. In the deli the light was out in the 2-door Holbert freezer. In the deli, the dishwasher was leaking water out of the machine from 2 holes on the side, all over the floor. the wash cycle dial was not working on the dishwasher. The light in the bakery walk-in freezer was broken/not working and had ice accumulation inside. In the meat/seafood area the 3-door freezer was not working and was leaking water (no product in this unit). There was ice accumulation on floor of walk-in freezer in Clicklist. There is an accumulation of dust/mildew on ceiling of walk-in cooler in Clicklist. The deli meat cookers are rusted on bottom surface where bags of meat are placed. There is food debris in the doors to the hot bar. The inside of the microwave in the bakery is dirty. The cart/racks in the bakery are dirty. There are rusted shelves in the refrigerated biscuits/cookie dough area. There were 3 lights out in the freezer section. There is cracked floor tile on the main floor leading into the bakery. The wall behind the 3-compartment sink in the deli has mildew growth. There were gnats flying around in the deli by the prep sink and dishwasher. The cove molding is missing along the wall behind dishwasher in the deli. There is cracked tile above back wall in the deli. Floor under deep fryer is rough and coming apart. Floor behind the rotisserie is dirty. Note: There is a fishy/seafood smell in the meat/seafood area. Please check all drains to ensure units are not clogged.

Critical: There is a package of outdated cheese in the deli (6/27). The following temperature violations were found in salad bar: Chicken salad, 45°F; diced tomatoes, 4545°F; tuna salad, 45°F; and cottage cheese, 43°F. The rinse temperature of the dishwasher in the deli only reached 170°F.

• Blanchester Veterans Memorial Park, 933 SR 123 South, Blanchester, June 20. Level 2 certification unavailable.

• 4-H Camp Graham, 164 Springhill Road, Clarksville, June 19. Bracelets worn by food handler. Food handlers may only wear plain wedding band to prevent contamination from jewelry. Potato salad 45°F (walk-in cooler). Dust observed on fan covers in walk-in cooler.

• Cowan Lake Commissary, 1756 Osborn Road, Wilmington, June 16. Follow-up. Violation corrected: 2.4, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 6.2, 6.4. Thanks for cooperation.
