BLANCHESTER — Playing against an overmatched Clermont Northeastern Rocket team, Blanchester dominated on both sides of the ball in a 42-0 win at Barbour Memorial Field.

The Wildcat defense (3-5 overall, 2-1 in SBC National Division) held CNE to just 2 yards of offense and scored on an interception return in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Wildcat offense scored four times in the first half, including two on long touchdown passes by freshman Brayden Sipple.

For the game, Blanchester held CNE to just 12 yards of offense on 53 offensive plays. On offense, Blanchester gained 338 yards on just 37 plays.

“We were executing … the line stepped up and did a good job,” BHS head coach Brandon Sammons said. “The running backs were hitting holes and Sipple was finding his receivers when they were open.”

After a brutal schedule to open the season, a young Wildcat team is starting to gain confidence in division play.

“I think, always with youth, they need some things to build on,” Sammons said. “For the first five weeks of the season, it was pretty tough competition. They didn’t have a lot to step out onto. They were playing from behind, and that’s tough when you’re young.

“These last two weeks, coming out and getting up on the board early, that’s been a huge thing for them.”

Sipple finished with 173 yards passing to go with two touchdowns. Derick Bowman had 61 yards receiving and a touchdown, while Jackson Waialae had 65 yards receiving and a score.

Brent Hopkins needed just 4 carries to gain 79 yards and a touchdown. Hopkins also had a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown. James Peters finished with 64 yards rushing and a touchdown on just 9 carries.

The victory is the seventh consecutive for Blanchester over Clermont Northeastern, winning by an average of 38 points per game. CNE last beat BHS in 2010, 39-27 at Barbour Memorial Field.
