CEDARVILLE – Simon Heys is the first Wilmington High School boys cross country runner to qualify for the regional meet three consecutive seasons.
Heys was 14th overall Saturday in the Division I Cedarville District meet at the Elvin R. King CC Course. The top 36 individuals in the race qualified for the regional meet.
The regional will be held Saturday at Troy High School.
Heys ran 16:35.o9, just a shade off his own school record, which he hopes to better at the regional meet, WHS coach Eileen Grosse said in addition to his school first of three consecutive regional berths. Heys is a junior and will have a chance next year at four straight regional races.
For the WHS girls, Tristin Vail was the top runner. She placed 65th in 23:21.65.
