WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation is set to officially open the new concrete skate park at the David Williams Memorial Park.

The grand opening and ribbon-cutting will take place at 5:30 p.m. The venue is located between the splashpad and youth soccer fields near the parking lot on Fife Avenue in Wilmington.

“The Park Board and I are thrilled to see this community feature open which will allow young people from Wilmington and surrounding areas the ability to indulge in an amenity most commonly found in bigger cities,” said Jermaine Isaac, Superintendent of City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation. “Making this longtime dream become a reality has been a true team effort. The recently retired City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Director, Lori Williams, did a fantastic job leading this initiative and engaging all the right people for this project. We would like to thank the many generous organizations and individuals that donated to this project, both monetarily and in-kind.

“We are also very proud of our local young skaters and would like to commend them and the Clinton County Skatepark Association for providing input on the design of the skate park,” he added.

The full design and build was done by Grindline Skateparks of Seattle. This park is designed for beginner and intermediate skaters, which will coincide with the older skate park (near Kroger and the tennis courts), which is designed for intermediate and advances skaters.
