Tigers pull away from Quakers in 11th

WILMINGTON – Luke Kleindl’s mammoth three-run home run tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Wittenberg University scored seven runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Wilmington College baseball team 12-6 in non-conference action Thursday evening at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.

Wilmington finished with 10 hits. Josh Chua, Gage Bley, Jake Hyatt and Nick Silvis all had two hits. Kleindl had the three-run home run while Daniel Hayes finished with one hit.

Chua and Silvis drove in runs in the fourth as WC took a 2-1 lead. The Tigers (13-20) went up 5-2 before Kleindl’s homer tied the game.

Wilmington put two on with one out in the 10th but were unable to score the winning run.

Wittenberg tallied 21 hits as a team including eight individuals who recorded multi-hit contests.

The Quakers (9-24) host Heidelberg University 1 p.m. Saturday for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader.
