Cuban dinner at Fairview Friends

GREEN TOWNSHIP — A traditional Cuban dinner will be held Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Fairview Friends Meetinghouse north of New Vienna.

The event is a fundraiser, with proceeds to go toward rebuilding of the Wilmington School — or, in Spanish, el Colegio Wilmington — on the island of Cuba in the coastal town of Puerto Padre. Originally built in 1909, the school carries the name of Wilmington because it was founded and funded by Quakers (Religious Society of Friends) from the Wilmington, Ohio area.

The traditional Cuban dinner, scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 16, is for donation.

Then, between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16, Libbie Curry of Chester Friends Meeting in Clinton County, will give a presentation. Curry has travelled among Cuban Quakers often.

The meetinghouse is located at 6796 Antioch Road in Clinton County, a site that’s about a mile east of the intersection between Antioch Road and State Route 729.
