WASHINGTON, D.C. – Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital in Heart Failure for 2018-19 by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 29th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

CMH CEO Lance Beus emphasized the importance of this designation as they continue advancing the level of cardiac care at CMH.

“I’m so proud of our team here at Clinton Memorial Hospital,” Beus said. “This designation by U.S. News & World Report is evidence of our commitment to excellent care for our patients suffering from heart failure. Comprehensive cardiac care has been our top priority over the last several years, and our hard work and commitment to high quality care shows. Congratulations to our cardiac, emergency medicine, and inpatient acute and critical care teams for this tremendous honor.”

For the 2018-19 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals procedure and condition ratings focus on individual procedures and conditions like hip replacement and heart failure rather than on broader specialties like orthopedics and cardiology.

The goal is to evaluate how well hospitals perform in each procedure or condition with the full range of patients. An overall rating of high performing indicates a hospital was significantly better than the national average in a given procedure or condition, putting them in the top 10 to 20 percent of the evaluated hospitals in a condition or procedure.

“For nearly 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to healthcare consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “By providing the most comprehensive data available, we give patients and their physicians’ information to support their search for the best care across a range of specialties.”

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely or entirely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

Best Hospitals was produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
