WC football travels to No. 1 Mount Union Saturday

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College football team will visit Alliance Saturday to face defending national champion Mount Union. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

Mount Union has defeated Wilmington 18 consecutive seasons, dating back to the 2000 campaign when Wilmington joined the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Purple Raiders, ranked No. 1 in the latest D3football.com national poll, have had similar success with just about every foe in recent years. Mount Union is 70-4 with two national championships the past six seasons.

Wilmington is 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the OAC. Mount Union is 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Mount Union defeated Otterbein 56-14 this past Saturday. Wilmington lost to Heidelberg 44-13 last week.

WC quarterback Kyle Barrett averages 250 yards through air. He has nine touchdown passes. Luke Richardson has a team best three TD receptions for the Quakers.

On defense, Tre’Quez Parks averages a team-best 7 tackles per game for WC while Weston Trampler has four sacks among his 21 tackles.

While there is statistical difference between the two teams on both sides of the ball, the numbers are more contrasting on defense. Wilmington is allowing 33 points per game while the Purple Raiders are giving up just 11.

Mount Union is surrendering 220 yards per game while Wilmington gives up 394. Pass defense is similar but MU gives up just 88 yards per game on the ground while WC allows 223.
