Blanchester FFA sponsors career day

BLANCHESTER — Blanchester FFA held a career day on Wednesday, Feb. 27 which involved the entire high school — ninth- through 12th-graders.

Planning for this event began months before. Every student sent in what their desired career is from a large list. Then, the careers were narrowed down to the most common picks.

The students were then sent a list of the chosen careers. They numbered one through four by priority what sessions they wanted to be in.

The Blanchester FFA officers saw the problem in our school about students feeling lost about their future and created a solution by integrating our career day.

Professionals were brought in from the following careers: athletic trainer, mental health therapist, coach, restaurant owner/chef, graphic designer, publisher, law enforcement, actor/actress, sports management, sales, lawyer, nurse, accountant, airline pilot, welding, aeronautics, architect, doctor, singer/songwriter, hair stylist, construction, human resources, mechanic, mechanical engineer, personal trainer, politics/government, and farming.

The professionals had four 26-minute sessions to educate the students about what they do, their education, and to inspire the students.

After the sessions, students were sent to the gym to speak with colleges in attendance — Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, Southern State Community College, Chatfield Community College, Wilmington College, Northern Kentucky University, Art Institute of Cincinnati, and the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army.

To end the day the professionals had the option of staying for a luncheon.

The Blanchester FFA would like to thank everyone who helped make career day a success.
