• ‘Nixon Unable To Crack Favorite Son Delegation’
“MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Richard M. Nixon, beating the bushes for the 80 or so delegates he needs to clinch his presidential nomination, indicated he has been unable to crack open the powerful Ohio and Michigan delegations. At the same time, Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller of New York, his chief challenger, won an attractive recruit to his camp: Gov. Daniel J. Evans of Washington, the convention’s keynote speaker.”

• ‘Webb Wins two Classes at Tractor Pull’; Tugging ‘n Chugging ‘til 3 a.m.
“A three-and-a-half hour shutdown due to breakage of a shaft on the Traction Teaser chassis and another halt of nearly an hour over an argument about eligibility of a driver — who blocked access to the sled — caused an otherwise smooth-running tractor pull into the small hours of the morning today … Bob Webb emerged the king of the big tractors.” There were 150 entries in the six classes, according to the Southwestern Ohio Tractor Club at the Clinton County Fair.
• Paid attendance at the Clinton County Fair’s first day Monday was 2,536.
• Family Vegetable Gardening winners were Milton Murphy, Wilmington Flower Blossoms & Gardeners; David Haines, Reesville Sodbusters; Doug Roberts, New Antioch Hustlers; Janell Hale, New Antioch Hustlers; and Rau Adae.
• Outstanding Flower Garden Project winner was Greta Ehlerding of the Stuff ‘n Cuff 4-H Club. Foods winners included Mary Frances Ehlerding in Food Preservation; Patty Miller in Breads; Cynthia Bean in Tasty Meals; and Helen Fisher in Quick Meals.
• Winners in the City of Wilmington Recreation event included pet show participants Abbie Arnold, Robin Kline, Cindy Shively and Brian Dunlap.
• Participants in the Villars Chapel United Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service included Mrs. Charles Sewell, Mrs. Marion Knedler, Mrs. Opal McCollister, Mrs. Dennis Windross, Diana, Debbie and Kathy Sewell, Mrs. Aaron Sewell, Mrs. Larry Bartram, Mrs. Roy Leininger and Mrs. Jean Richardson.
• Playing at the Wilmington Drive-in were “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Barefoot in the Park.” Coming to the Murphy Theatre was Julie Andrews in “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
