WILMINGTON — The Y Disciples team with Saint Columbkille Catholic Church was recently presented with the CANstruction trophy for their participation in Cardboard & Cans 2020.
The group worked together as a team using collected canned goods and other non-perishables, in showing their compassion and creativity to highlight their theme of “Caring for our Neighbors”.
More than 1,000 canned goods and non-perishable items were wrapped and then constructed to resemble the facade of the Saint Columbkille Catholic Church. All food items collected by the team were donated to the Clinton County Homeless Shelter food pantry.
In 2019, the shelter was home for 253 individuals including 39 children and seven veterans. They called the shelter home for 6,811 nights and they were served 34,055 meals/snacks.
The Wilmington AM Rotary Club has been the sponsor of the event for many years, and this year’s event was co-chaired by Fadi Al-Ghawi and Brad Reynolds.
