No. 15 Mount Union sweeps weekend from WC

The Wilmington College softball team lost four games this weekend to No. 15 Mount Union, 5-1 and 5-2 on Saturday, and 3-1 and 11-3 on Sunday.

In the first game Saturday, McKenna Archey and Andrea Edmiston had the lone hits for WC. Megan Crager scored the only run. Lindsey Carter had a stolen base.

Sydney Harville took the loss in the circle. Carter pitched six innings in relief, allowing four hits and striking out two.

In the second game, WC scored two runs in the seventh but it was not enough.

Alecia Kemp had two hits while Carter, Lizz Hadley and Hayley Suchland had one hit each. Hadley and Kylah Morrison drove in the WC runs.

Suchland was the losing pitcher. Alexis Stringfellow pitched well in relief, going 5.2 innings and giving up just one run.

On Sunday, Edmisten had two hits in the first game with Crager and Kemp had one hit each. Kemp also had an RBI.

Carter gave up two earned runs and did not walk a batter but was the losing pitcher.

In the second game Sunday, Suchland had a hit and scored twice, including a steal of home for the first run. Arianna Layne had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Kemp had a hit, walked twice and drive in a run. Hadley also had a hit.

Stringfellow, Hannah Hall and Hillary Huffer pitched for WC, with Stringfellow taking the loss.

Wilmington (16-20, 15-17 OAC) will look to return to winning ways with the final regular season series of the 2021 season against Capital University this weekend.
