WILMINGTON — Police officers, their families, and local officials and residents paid respects to Wilmington Police Department Patrolman Emery McCreight and Marshal John T. Van Doren — who were killed in the line of duty in 1922 and 1884, respectively — at a ceremony in Sugar Grove Cemetery Monday.
Also honored were other members of local law enforcement who died while on active duty.
The national Peace Officers Memorial Day honoring officers who died or were disabled in the line of duty is held every May 15. For more photos, visit wnewsj.com.
