COLUMBUS — Ohioans filed 17,472 initial jobless claims last week (May 9-15), according to statistics the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported to the U.S. Department of Labor.
This is about 5,000 fewer initial jobless claims than were filed about a month ago.
The total number of initial jobless claims filed in Ohio over the last 61 weeks — 3,320,348 — was more than the combined total of those filed from 2013-2019.
Ohioans filed 228,061 continued jobless claims last week, which was 548,241 fewer than – or about 29% of – the peak last year. That includes both traditional unemployment claims and claims for extended benefits.
In addition, 149,020 Ohioans received Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) last week.
Over the last 61 weeks, ODJFS has distributed over $11.6 billion in unemployment compensation payments to over 1 million Ohioans. ODJFS has issued over $10.2 billion in PUA payments to over 1million Ohioans.
