A pair of Wilmington College athletes earned Ohio Athletic Conference weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Sophomore kicker Gabe Dolen is the OAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week while freshman Austin Reed earned Men’s Swimmer of the Week.
Dolen, a Zanesville native, connected on two field goals inside of 30 yards and converted all three extra points in the Fightin’ Quakers’ 37-33 win at Otterbein University in the regular season finale Saturday evening. His first field goal, a 29-yarder with 1:06 to play in the second quarter, gave WC a 20-19 lead at halftime.
Wilmington finished its 2021 fall season with a 2-8 overall record including a 2-7 mark in conference competition.
Reed was a winner of three individual events — the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.57), the 50-meter freestyle (26.32 seconds) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:40.19) — to help the Fightin’ Quakers to a dual meet win over Manchester University Saturday.
He also teamed with Cameron Bolen, Dane Klosterman and Jacob Worley to swim a winning time of 1:45.25 in the 200-meter freestyle relay.
“He has been focused in practice, training hard, and is starting the see the results of that work,” WC head coach Trip Breen said. “I am looking forward to seeing his continued success as we progress through the season.”
Wilmington closes out the calendar year with a trip to Ohio Wesleyan University for the Corbiere-Merion Invitational this weekend.
