‘Ike Hopes Anti-Red Issue Is Dead By Next Election’
“WASHINGTON (AP) — President Eisenhower said today he hopes his administration’s cleanup in Washington will eliminate the Communist-in-government issue from next year’s political campaign. The president told his news conference he does not believe Americans can afford to live in fear of each other forever.”
‘Korean Peace Talks Progress Believed Made’
“PANMUNJOM (AP) — Allied and Communist negotiators today appeared to be making progress in talks to arrange an already long-delayed Korean peace conference.”

‘Legion Auxiliary Has Auction at November Social’
“Twenty-six members attended the November social meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of Wilmington Veterans Post No. 49 at the West Locust Street residence of Mrs. Howard Sewell, where she was assisted in entertaining by Mrs. Irvin Swindler, Mrs. C.O. Minton and Mrs. James C. Johnson.” Others present included Mrs. Stella Harner, President Mrs. Virginia Bernard, Mrs. George Rhoades, Mrs. Lloyd Colvin, Mrs. Lawrence Riehl, Miss Eva Riehl, Miss Mary Riehl, Mrs. Kathleen Bright, Mrs. H.H. Stewart, Mrs. Charles Stratton, Mrs. H.G. Haynes, Mrs. Harold Pobst, Mrs. Paul Camp, Mrs. George Collins, Mrs. Will Lambcke, Mrs,. Clarence Puckett, Mrs. John Gleason, Mrs. A.A. • Pictured were cast members of the Wilmington High School junior class play “Turn Back the Clock” starring Pat Smith, Jeri Suer, Mary Ellen Regan, Keith Barns and Marlene Manker.
• Mr. Raymond and Mrs. May (West) Williamson of Martinsville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Nov. 19, 1903, but they were to “quietly observe their golden wedding anniversary as both are in ill health.”
• The Wilmington High School football team ended the season with nine straight losses.
• In high school basketball, Harveysburg led by brothers Jerry and Tom Masters downed Clarksville, led by Wesley Burton’s 16 points, 56-53. Blanchester was led by Dean Jackson’s 16 points, but fell 53-46 to Kings Mills.
• An ad stated, “Want a good, tasty meal at noon? Stop up at Zimmies — Zimmerman’s Restaurant, Upstairs on North South Street, Wilmington.”
