WILMINGTON — After placing it on pause in 2020 due to COVID, the Clinton County Solid Waste Management District (SWMD) held its annual Recycled Christmas Ornament Contest and Clinton County commissioners this week chose the Top 10 countywide winners.

The 10 countywide winners are: 5th-graders Aria Adams of Clinton-Massie Elementary and Allyson George of New Vienna Elementary; 4th-graders Kendall Lansing of Blanchester Intermediate and Evelynne Prater of New Vienna Elementary; 3rd-graders Joseph Morris of Clinton-Massie Elementary and Madilyn Puckett of Denver Place Elementary; 2nd-graders Kensley Ingle of Clinton-Massie Elementary and Lania Henry of Holmes Elementary; 1st-grader Avery Hoggatt of Putman Elementary; and kindergartener Emerson Medley of Putman Elementary.

A total of 72 ornaments were submitted, representing 72 homeroom classes from across Clinton County, both public and private schools.

Judging is based on use of recycled or reused materials and upon creativity. Not surprisingly, several ornaments utilized masks, in one instance transforming them into winged angels with pipecleaner halos and golf tee trumpets.

The local SWMD and county commissioners congratulate all 72 classroom winners.

The 10 countywide, grand-prize winners will receive recycled content prizes, and be recognized at a special awards ceremony in December at the Clinton County Courthouse.

All 72 classroom-winning ornaments will be on public display from Friday, Nov. 19 through the holiday season on the tall, glittering Christmas tree on the landing of the county courthouse staircase.
