WILMINGTON — During the month of February, the local Black History Month Committee in conjunction with the Clinton County History Center and Wilmington Savings Bank sponsored a county-wide essay contest for middle and high school students.
The essay was to focus on a particular African American who has inspired the student and how the student has been impacted by that life.
Essays ranged from historical figures to individuals personally known by the authors.
The Black History Month Committee is pleased to congratulate these winners:
Wilmington Middle
Makenna Dorsch — first place
Autumn Byrd — second place
Sarah Weller — third place
Morgan Mertz — fourth place
Blanchester Middle
Aisley Czaika — first place
Each of these winners was given a certificate of recognition by History Center Executive Director Shelby Boatman. They also were presented with a $50 voucher to establish a savings account at Wilmington Savings Bank from CEO Robert Grant, Retail Manager Matt Bradley and Lender Landon Wyatt.
The Black History Month Committee is grateful for these students, their guidance counselors, Wilmington Savings Bank, and the Clinton County History Center for their participation and leadership.
