WILMINGTON — A statewide favorite will wrap up their current theater tour in the historic Murphy Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Molly Pauken, Randy Huff and Kevin Reed join original McGuffey Lane members John Schwab, Terry Efaw and Steve Reis in one of the Midwest’s most popular bands over the last four decades.

This isn’t the band’s first time performing at the Murphy, Schwab told the News Journal.

“I love smaller theaters and (the Murphy) is absolutely gorgeous,” he said.

Schwab said he enjoys playing in the intimacy of smaller theaters.

“We do a lot of fairs, festivals, small events, but a theater is better suited for a concept where people actually listen to the music,” he said.

Schwab told the News Journal that the winter months are usually when they play at theaters, with the Murphy their final theater stop before festival concerts begin.

The band is known for exceptional musicianship and vocal harmonies on both their high-energy music and their beautiful ballads. Their live shows are always entertaining and, attesting to their popularity over the years, attract not only longtime fans but their children and even grandchildren.

McGuffey Lane has shared a stage with many nationally-known artists including the Allman Brothers Band, The Judds, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Exile, the Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels, and Pure Prairie League.

They were honored to open for Merle Haggard on his final tour.

The band has released a number of albums and has sold over 300,000 units since they were first signed with Atlantic Records.
