9 straight for National-leading Wildcats

BLANCHESTER — Two pitchers combined on a three-hitter and Reagan Burch led the offense as Blanchester beat Georgetown 9-3 Tuesday in SBAAC National Division play.

The win puts Blanchester at 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the division. Williamsburg also had one league loss going in to play Tuesday. Blanchester has won nine straight games which establishes a new school record, erasing the 2014 eight-game win streak, manager Aaron Lawson said.

Georgetown falls to 0-8 overall, 0-5 in the division.

“(This game) was one of those games we won but I felt like we went backwards,” said Lawson. “We had bad approaches at the plate, didn’t control the running game, made poor decisions throwing the ball with no play. Things that would typically play a bigger role in a close ball game.”

Kyle Garrett pitched five innings and did not allow an earned run in his first start on the mound this season. Michael Mulvihill pitched the final two innings.

“One bright side is we got a great start from Kyle,” Lawson said. “He was able to get ahead and keep the ball down. He was able to produce a lot of soft contact. Defense played well, too. We turned our first groundball double play of the year. That was nice to see.”

Burch had three hits, scored twice and drove in two teammates from the top of the Wildcats batting order.
