WILMINGTON — The 1980s was a time of big-hair bands and eyes and ears glued to MTV awaiting the hottest new videos.

Those great days will come Back to the Future this Friday at 7 p.m. in downtown Wilmington as the energetic and fun “Kids in America” ’80s tribute band headlines Totally ’80s Night by kicking off the Summer Concert Series presented by the Clinton County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Kids in America is “a high-energy, power-packed, ultra fun, 6-piece band paying tribute to the totally awesome 1980s covering all genres from this timeless decade. From new wave, pop, dance, rock, hair metal, and sing along iconic ballads. Kids in America specializes in recreating the ’80s visually and musically by delivering authentic sound with a vivid show for your favorite ’80s hits.” They are based in Charlotte, N.C.

Come dressed for the ’80s and join the fun. There will be a best-dressed costume contest and lots of fun along with food vendors on Sugartree Street.

And with the DORA — Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area — you can shop while you sip at Wilmington’s unique boutiques or at Venice Wine inside of Rome Jewelers.

Bring a lawn chair and have a “gnarly” good time on Sugartree Street. The CVB will also be throwing out T-shirts and some other goodies.

Come early and eat in one of the city’s awesome restaurants downtown including the General Denver, the Mediterranean, and Fiesta Veracruz to name a few. And don’t forget Papsy’s Place for premium ice cream, frozen yogurt and more.

This is the first of six Summer Concert Series evenings presented by the CVB.
