History comes to life on Saturday with Talking Tombstones at Sugar Grove Cemetery

WILMINGTON — The Clinton County History Center’s second annual Talking Tombstones cemetery walk is this Saturday, October 8 at Sugar Grove Cemetery (297 Truesdell St., Wilmington).

Pre-sale tickets are available for purchase at a cost of $10 for members and $20 for non-members.

Limited day-of-tickets will be available at the cemetery gates for $15 and $25 each.

Children can participate for free with the purchase of an adult entry.

Talking Tombstones is the Center’s largest annual fundraiser and features a variety of familiar locals in historical costumes portraying former Clinton Countians and their life stories.

The tour takes approximately one hour to complete and entry times are every 15 minutes from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Time slots of 10 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 1:30-2 p.m. are sold out.

The actors are:

• Molly Boatman as Mrs. Dorothy Kirk, philanthropist and former teacher at Wilmington College.

• Jonathan McKay as Judge Charles Kirk, world traveler and former Judge of the County Common Pleas Courts.

• Matt Purkey as Dr. George Austin, renowned geologist and archaeologist

• Mary Kay Vance as Verna Mae “Beany” Crawford Sabin of Sabin’s Grocery

• Kelly Kirk as Matthew Rombach Denver, US Congressman and Businessman

• Thomas Breckel as Commodore William Fitzhugh

• Ethan Powles as Isaiah Morris, first Mayor of Wilmington

• Fred & Susan Ertel will share the history of Sugar Grove Cemetery

• The Henry Casey Camp 92, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will be at the GAR Monument with camp items and reenactment tents.
