Otterbein overwhelms WC men 81-49

WILMINGTON — Otterbein left no doubt Wednesday with an 81-49 victory over Wilmington at Fred Raizk Arena.

Otterbein’s Alex Hannah led all scorers with 17 points, including five three-pointers.

Izaiah Cathey led Wilmington with 11 points.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 15-2 lead after four minutes, a 27-7 lead at the 9:41 mark of the first half and a 39-7 advantage, after a 14-0 run, with 6:32 left in the first half.

By that time, the Cardinals had made 15-of-24 from the field, including 6-of-10 from behind the arc, compared to 3-of-22 overall and 0-of-9 from three-point range for the Quakers. Otterbein also held a 22-7 advantage on the boards to that point.

Leading 43-16 at the half, Otterbein had 14 assists on 17 made buckets in 34 attempts, outrebounded Wilmington 30-11 and dominated scoring in the paint 22-8.

The Quakers whittled Otterbein’s lead from 30 to 19 points – 50-20 to 56-37 – from the 16:06 mark of the second half to the 11:57 mark. That was as close as the Quakers would get.

Otterbein extended its margin back to 30-plus, 71-40 with 5:54 left in the contest.

Wilmington finished the first half of the Ohio Athletic Conference slate at 1-8. It is 5-11 overall.

Otterbein is 4-5 in the OAC and 10-6 overall.
