BHS students excel at DECA

BLANCHESTER – Eleven Blanchester High School students are headed to the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference after qualifying in their district event on Jan. 26.

The state competition takes place on March 10-11 in Columbus with students competing in various business and marketing events. This is the first year of the program at Blanchester High School, which is offered in cooperation with Great Oaks Career Campuses. The state qualifiers are:

Zach West – Hospitality Selling

District Runner-up (2nd Place)

Devon Barr and Kaylee Coyle – Business Law & Ethics Team

Gabe Staehling – Restaurant Series

Kadon Wells – Professional Selling

Mary Chapin – Marketing Communications Series

Casey Shank and Dylan Spurlock – Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team

DECA is an international student organization that prepares students for careers in marketing, management, finance, and entrepreneurship. There are approximately 5,500 Ohio student members and over 185,000 members nationally.

With a territory spanning 36 school districts and 2,200 square miles of southwest Ohio, Great Oaks is one of the largest career and technical education districts in the United States and has been providing career development since 1970. The district has adapted its curriculum as workforce needs have evolved over the last 52 years. Today, Great Oaks enrolls nearly 3,000 high school juniors and seniors on its four campuses, and over 21,000 secondary and middle school students through Great Oaks satellite programs embedded in school districts throughout the region. In addition, there are over 13,000 adult students attending Great Oaks, training in a diverse array of fields.
