Cowan Lake trout youth fishing event set for Saturday

ODNR Division of Wildlife will be stocking “catchable” 10–14-inch rainbow trout in the Cowan Lake Family Fishing Pond for a Trout Youth Fishing Event on Saturday March 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The pond will be closed to the public once the trout are stocked and reopened when the event starts. The ODNR sponsored event will be located at the Family Fishing Pond located on the south side of Cowan Lake off of Yankee Road. While there, the park guests can go over to the new Storybook Trail with their kids. It is located across from the pond.

These rainbow trout are stocked to be harvested since they are not native to Ohio and can’t survive in the warmer waters of summer. You might want to consider bringing a small cooler with ice to hold your fish until you can clean them. There is a limit of five trout, any size per day. A fishing license is required for adults.

ODNR Wildlife officers will be there to help out with the fishing. They will be happy to answer any questions that you might have regarding hunting and fishing regulations.

Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park (FCC) will provide a limited number of rods/reels and bait along with volunteers to help you fish. The Wild Hog’s BBQ Food Truck will be there in case you work up an appetite from all that fishing or you just want a great lunch. They donate a percentage of their sales to the FCC which will go to help support various events and future projects.
