BLANCHESTER — Williamsburg defeated Blanchester 14-7 Wednesday in a key league baseball game and now has a two-game lead in the division.
Williamsburg is 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the SBAAC National.
Blanchester drops to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the division.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-1 lead with a five-run third. The big hit in the inning was a grand slam by Bryce Sipple.
“We got the big hit (Sipple slam) we were looking for in a ballgame like this then wasted it away in the fourth,” Blanchester manager Aaron Lawson said.
Williamsburg came right back with five runs in the fourth to tie the game. The key to the inning was a shallow pop fly to the outfield that no one took charge of and it fell between several defenders.
“We should have been out of the fourth, still up 6-2, but when you give good teams more than three outs an inning, they make you pay,” said Lawson.
Williamsburg added five more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to put the game away.
“Once they tied it up, you could just feel the momentum switch and all the excitement sucked out of our dugout,” the BHS manager added.
