WILMINGTON – The community is invited to join the Clinton County Health District (CCHD) as it celebrates the completion of the final marathon mile of “26th Mile Clinton County” for CCHD 2023 program participants this Saturday, May 6 at the Elizabeth J. Looney Trail off South Nelson Avenue at 10 a.m.

Program participants should arrive at 9:30 a.m. to register for the final mile. Over 30 children representing almost every Clinton County school district have been participating in this CCHD youth wellness program every Thursday afternoon for the past 10 weeks at Denver Place Elementary School. Program participants have learned and practiced literacy, physical activity, nutrition, mindfulness, wellness in a different theme each week, along with running/walking mileage in increments towards their marathon mileage.

The CCHD’s Renee Quallen is the 26th Mile Clinton County program director, and Wilmington College senior Milena Wahl is the program coordinator. This program is affiliated with the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this weekend.

Following completion of the last marathon mile, program participants, their families and the community are invited to stay for the festivities of the Family Health Expo until noon. Festivities include: face painting, a Cowan State Park naturalist with animals, Wilmington Fire truck water spray, snacks and a special visit from a real pig.
