ALLIANCE — The Wilmington College track and field teams looked to add to its national qualifying contingent Thursday at the University of Mount Union for the final Last Chance Meet of the year.

Currently, WC has four individuals set to compete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships — Simon Heys (3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs), Brady Vilvens (high jump), Durr (hammer throw) and Nathan Borgan (hammer throw). Heys and Vilvens are both Wilmington High School graduates.

In the men’s hammer throw, JJ Durr won the event at the same place he was crowned the Ohio Athletic Conference champion two weeks earlier with a heave of 192-11. Teammate Nate Marcum’s toss of 172-5 placed him second. Brett Brooks was the other Quaker to compete on Thursday and the freshman from Wilmington High School took sixth in the discus with a throw of 143-3.

Madison Dietz, a senior from Waynesville, placed sixth with a leap of 16-8.5 in the women’s long jump.

The Quakers will await the announcement this weekend of the field of competitors for the national meet.
