KINGS MILLS — Clinton-Massie won Flight I Saturday at Kings High School in the Coaches Classic tennis tournament organized by the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association.

The tournament features 13 four-school flights, with teams in groups, for the most part, of similar ability.

This year Clinton-Massie moved up in flights and was competing against Seven Hills B team, Kings, and Mercy McAuley.

“I didn’t know quite what to expect as we have never played any of those teams before,” Massie head coach Julie Kirby said. “Kings is Division 1 and they have a good program. Seven Hills is in our division and they are always ranked high. Mercy McAuley is another solid team that we have never played.”

Kings hosted the event and Wilmington native Sarah Hennessy did an excellent job of setting up the tournament and keeping it moving, Kirby said.

Without quite know what to expect, the Falcons quickly showed they could compete with these new competitors. Addison Swope, and doubles teams of Mikayla Wonderly and Brylie Green and Elle Dunham and Noel Gasaway walked away tournament champions.

“I am very proud of these girls and what they are accomplishing this year,” said Kirby. “Addison keeps becoming a stronger player against tougher competitors and I think we will see the results of that work at sectionals. Maria Jones has also had a tremendous season and should do well at sectionals. Our doubles teams are amazing and I am looking forward to seeing how they do as well.”
