WILMINGTON — In a heartwarming gesture of community support, Elks Lodge #797 demonstrated its commitment to animal welfare by donating a generous sum of $5,000 each to two local animal shelters—PAWS Humane Society and Clinton County Humane Society.

The contribution was made Wednesday evening, aiming to provide crucial assistance to the shelters as they continue their tireless efforts to care for and find homes for animals in need.

Eileen Brady, a volunteer for the Clinton County Humane Society (CCHS), expressed her gratitude.

“We are extremely grateful for the generous donation from the Elks. Financial donations like theirs help us tremendously with the increased cost of veterinary care and supplies. In 2023, CCHS found homes for almost 350 animals that were vaccinated as well as spayed and neutered, and that gets expensive,” Brady said.

The timing of the donation proved to be particularly crucial, as Brady highlighted the recent need to reach out to the public for essential items.

“Just yesterday morning, before we received these funds, we had to ask the public for some things like Dawn dish soap, paper towels, and newspaper for litters of puppies. We are able to do what we do because of financial donations like this one from the Elks and because of our devoted volunteers.”

The Elks Lodge, located at 2567 Rombach Ave., is open to the public, offering lunch Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner Thursday to Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
