Otterbein hands Wilmington 81-66 defeat

WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College women’s basketball team was defeated at Otterbein Wednesday night 81-66 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

For the fifth time this season, Quakers guard Cassidy Lovett bested the 20-point mark in a game, scoring 23 points to tie for game-high honors.

A pair of Quakers Keetyn Hupp (12 points) and ZahKyria Walker (10 points) also scored in double-digits.

The Quakers are now 5-14 overall this season and 3-10 in the OAC.

Wilmington jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a Hupp three-pointer and Walker jumper. However, the Cardinals settled into the game and eventually use a 12-5 run to hold a 12-10 lead after the first quarter.

Otterbein continued to roll, beginning the second quarter with a 14-5 rally, good enough for a 26-15 lead with 6:34 to play in the half. Lovett scored four points to help pull WC within 28-22 but the Cardinals pulled out to a 36-29 halftime lead.

Wilmington was within 38-35 early in the third but could get no closer. Lovett and Natalie Rupp made three-pointers to cut the Otterbein lead to 54-48 after three.

Stephanie Altstaetter, Hupp, and Lovett all tied for the team lead with six rebounds. Lovett and Walker tied for the team lead with two assists. Lovett led the team with two steals.
