WC baseball wins first of season 11-6 over Berea

BEREA, Ky. – The Wilmington College baseball team won its first game of the season, 11-6, Tuesday night over Berea College.

Wilmington had a season-high 10 hits in the game, with a trio of Quakers gathering a pair of base hits during the contest — Dominic Depa, JP Donelan and Max Gildea.

Depa belted his fourth career homerun and had four runs batted in. Donelan drove in three and Gildea knocked in two. Evan Kelsey, Carter Scheben and Depa all scored two runs for WC. Jared Lammert walked three times, while Kyle Jennings, and J.C. Calhoun both walked twice. Kelsey stole two bases and Lammert swiped one.

On the mound, WC pitchers struck out 15 Mountaineers with Gildea fanning seven in 3.1 innings. Luke Chappie, Clinton-Massie graduate, had two strikeouts while Kaleb Stines struckout three.

Wilmington will play 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mount St. Joseph.

Donelan and Depa both drove in two runs in the second inning. Wilmington led 6-0 but Berea battled back to make it 8-4. But in the eighth, Kelsey drove in Eli Hollingsworth then Depa drove one over the wall to centerfield to make it 11-4.
