MONROE — A big fourth quarter propeled Wilmington to a 10-7 win over Monroe Wednesday in high school lacrosse action.

The match was tied at 5-5 through three quarters then the teams played in rain for the final period of the match.

“By keeping our discipline, we were positive in extra-man offense,” WHS coach Adam Shultz said. “During the fourth quarter, we had some players step up and secure the lead.”

Jon Custis and Michael Streety scored three goals each for Wilmington. Custis also had an assist. Colin Wood had two goals and three assists.

Jelani Hunter and Eli Payne rounded out the scoring for the Hurricane.

Wilmington is 3-2 on the year. The Hurricane hosts Clinton-Massie Tuesday night at Alumni Field for the Lacrosse-Town Shootout. The WHS match against Waynesville scheduled for Saturday has been postponed, Shultz said.
