The Clinton County History Center recently had the pleasure of hosting over 60 enthusiastic students from Wilmington Christian Academy. Students in the sixth through eighth grades participated in an engaging and educational tour that brought local history to life.

The visit, which took place on May 21, was designed to complement the students’ curriculum and provide a hands-on learning experience for the end of the school year. The students were divided into small groups to ensure an interactive and personalized tour experience. They were guided by knowledgeable staff through various exhibits that highlight the rich history of Clinton County.

“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to share local history with students and help connect them to their community, all while better understanding the past through the lens of Clinton County” said Shelby Boatman, director of the History Center. “It’s vital for students to understand the historical context of their own community beyond a textbook, and we hope this visit has sparked a deeper interest in history among the students.”

The tour included a visit to the museum’s temporary sports display as well as permanent exhibits, featuring artifacts from pre-historic times, the impact of the Civil War locally, and even the contributions of local residents to significant national events. Students were particularly captivated by objects portraying how Clinton Countians lived almost 200 years ago, including the museum’s folding bathtub, toy room, and rope bed.

The Clinton County History Center is committed to fostering educational partnerships with local schools and providing resources that support historical education. Tours like the one experienced by Wilmington Christian Academy students are part of ongoing efforts to engage young minds and cultivate an appreciation for local history.
