Storms spring sizzling heat

Winds reached 55 miles per hour in Wilmington (and possibly higher elsewhere in Clinton County) with “a lot” of lightning during the Monday evening storms, according to the National Weather Service, whose wind turbine is shown during the storms.

The high winds caused some localized damage with trees downed, roads closed and some power outages.

Beat the heat

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect Tuesday through Wednesday for the entire region, with temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s.

The heat index expected to reach as high as about 109°F in Clinton County.

Police scanner traffic on Tuesday indicated that an elderly man was being treated for possible heat stroke at a local golf course, and first responders were called to treat another elderly person who was suffering from the heat.

Remember that cooling centers are throughout the county; call before you go to verify station manning and so they know to expect you:
