Quakers blitz UCC second time this season

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College volleyball team swept the University of Cincinnati Clermont College for the second time this season, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22, in the non-conference finale Thursday evening.

After winning set two, Wilmington took a large lead in set three looking for the sweep. The Quakers led 24-14 after a block from Mariella Szrom and Jillian Wesco. Another block from Szrom and Wesco at 24-22 gave the hosts the straight-set win.

The Quakers featured a three-headed attack as Wesco, Szrom and Karrah Wind all recorded double digits in kills. Wesco finished with 13 kills and 10 digs while Szrom, who featured a .444 attack percentage, and Wind both put down 10 kills. Jackie Koontz and Summer Wilbur combined for 36 assists while Karley Schlensker added 16 digs.

Wilmington (8-17) travels to Baldwin Wallace University for a 1 p.m. match Saturday.
