Lady ’Cane rallies to beat HHS 4-1

HILLSBORO — After a slow start, Wilmington came on strong Thursday and posted a 4-1 win over Hillsboro in South Central Ohio League soccer action.

“We didn’t play well the first 20 minutes,” said WHS coach Kerry Lewis. “Hillsboro was dominating play and had multiple shots on goal. Senior keeper Megan Borton kept us in the game until we could get to halftime and make the necessary adjustments. Megan made several outstanding saves. We easily could have been down 3-0.”

Instead it was just 1-0 early before the Lady Hurricane found the back of the net.

Bryah Arehart tied the match at 1-1 with an assist to Savannah Morgan.

“You may not see a prettier goal the entire season,” Lewis said. “Savannah crossed the ball from the corner to the six yard line. Savannah’s cross was a rocket. Bryah hit the header with authority. The ball was in the back of the net before the goalie could even get her hands up.”

Morgan followed with one goal and Drezden Beam tallied two goals as Wilmington pulled away from Hillsboro.

Lewis said Beam, the striker, had outstanding composure around the net while central defender Gethsemane Bray played her best game and “played with discipline.”

Bray, Borton and Morgan (2) had assists for Wilmington.
