GREENFIELD — Winning for the first time this season, the Wilmington High School boys golf team went 2-1 Monday in a South Central Ohio League quad match at Buckeye Hills Country Club.

The Hurricane shot 188 while McClain had a 189 and Chillicothe shot 217. Miami Trace won the quad with a 175.

“It is far from what we want to become, but they all played consistently,” said WHS coach Phil Gilmore. “With some strokes still left out on the course, these scores were results of hard work … much more hard work to come. We have not played our best golf yet but the boys and I starting to see what we are capable of.”

Drew Carey and Hunter DeWeese led Wilmington with 45s. Tristan Reiley and Cameron Smart, “both playing the best golf of their young careers,” Gilmore said, had 49s. Dylan Combs carded a 50.

Last week, Wilmington lost to Clinton-Massie 171 to 191 at Snow Hill Country Club. DeWeese had a 45, Carey 46, Smart 50 and Derrick Cope 50.

Wilmington is 2-4 in the SCOL and 2-5 overall.
