The Wilmington High School girls soccer team lost control of its own South Central Ohio League destiny Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to Hillsboro at Alumni Field.

WHS head coach Kerry Lewis said, “Tonight was the only bad game we’ve played all season. We lacked energy and discipline.”

Lewis said the Lady Hurricane threatened numerous time at the Lady Indians goal but came up empty. Hillsboro, on the other hand, had few “close looks at our goal yet they capitalized.”

Wilmington is now 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the SCOL.

“We no longer control our own destiny but all four teams (Clinton-Massie, Hillsboro, Wilmington, Chillicothe) are capable of beating each other,” said Lewis. “We’ll just play one game at a time and hope for the best.”

WHS is off until Tuesday when it travels to Clinton-Massie.

Bryan Arehart scored in the 37th minute against Hillsboro to tie the match at 1-1. Hillsboro went up 3-1 before Savannah Morgan cashed in off a penalty kick. Bridgette Thompson was credited with an assist for earning the PK, Lewis said.

On Saturday, Wilmington defeated Dayton Christian 2-0.

Lewis said the win was “our best all-around performance.”

“Our front line, back line and our midfield all played well,” he said. “We’ve been struggling through the midfield so it was nice to see our midfielders have a strong game versus a quality opponent.”

Lewis said the WHS back line of Jenna Victor, Suzannah Johns, Katlyn Jamiel and Gethsemane Bray helped goalkeeper Megan Borton earn the shutout.
