The East Clinton FFA continues to show why it’s a top program as the Parliamentary Procedure Teams excelled in the recent District Contest at Ross High School.

The advanced team of Hannah Pickering, Veronica Brewer, Taylor Boeckmann, Gracie McCarren, Ashley Kinner and Denver Bernard narrowly missed qualifying for the State Parliamentary Procedure Contest by placing third at districts. The team placed second at sub-districts, qualifying them for the district contest.

The novice team of Carlie Ellis, Myah Jones, Camille Hughes, Kori Kile, Alexa Garen, Blake Williams and Avery Wood placed second at sub-districts, also qualifying them for districts, where the team placed sixth overall.

The teams have been working tirelessly since the middle of September for these contests. A contest consists of a mock meeting where the members carry out controlled debates on various topics, called motions, and 6 or 10 abilities, based upon their level of the contest. Novice is given 6 and advanced is given 10 abilities.

The chairman is given the responsibility of carrying out the meeting in an orderly fashion.

The contest also consists of a written exam that is based off the students knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order.
