WILMINGTON — A man who took large items from a Sabina agri-business twice last summer received jail time and other community control sanctions at his sentencing.

Michael E. Reeder, 35, with an at-large address, was convicted of grand theft and of breaking-and-entering in connection with stealing a 2013 Chevy 2500 pickup truck and three trailers — a 2006 CornPro, a 2003 Wilro, and a 2012 trailer.

Reeder told a Sabina police officer he broke into Seed Consultants on July 28 and left with the pickup, according to court papers. He also admitted to the officer he went back to the same place July 29 and took the trailers, the affidavit stated.

He told the law enforcement officer he stole the truck and a trailer because he couldn’t keep a job and did not have a place to live.

In sentencing Reeder, Clinton County Common Pleas Judge John W. “Tim” Rudduck noted that while the defendant has a significant misdemeanor criminal history, the present case involved the first felonies. In addition, prosecutors were not opposed to a sentence of community controls provided that Reeder had no bond violations and maintained good behavior, stated the judge.

Reeder was placed on a two-year term of community controls, with the judge stating that violating rules of community controls would expose Reeder to a possible 10-month term at a state prison.

The sentence included a six-month county jail term, with time credit granted for 72 days already served.

After release from custody, Reeder initially will be monitored by Clinton County Adult Probation Department staff.

He must pay $750 restitution to the victim for property damage from the break-in.

The multiple rules contained in his community controls include, among other conditions: Reeder will not associate with other people on community control; he cannot possess alcoholic beverages of any type; he cannot enter bars or any establishment serving alcohol; he agrees to submit to a possible warrantless search conducted by a probation officer; and he cannot live in a residence where firearms are kept or have a firearm under his control.
