Oh Mya! Jackson nets 35 in Lady Hurricane win 65-46

WILMINGTON — With Mya Jackson netting a season-high 35 points and the Wilmington High School girls basketball team showing great effort at both ends of the floor, Hillsboro had little chance Saturday in a South Central Ohio League contest at Fred Summers Court.

“ I thought that we played a really good first half,” Wilmington head coach Zach Williams following his squad’s 65-46 win. “I loved their energy, their execution on the defensive end and the offensive end.”

Jackson had 35 points on 14 total field goals, three of which were three-pointers. Faith Sanderson had 13 points.

Natalie Sullivan was the leading scorer for the Indians with 15 points and Madi Marsh had 13.

The Hurricane didn’t waste any time with the score by starting the game with a 9-0 run. It wasn’t until a little over 4 minutes into the game that the Indians scored their first points.

The Hurricane responded with some nifty steals and 3-pointers from Jackson and Sanderson and their lead stood at 20-7 at the end of one.

The Hurricane continued the pursuit in the second quarter and by the end of the first half the Indians had been left in a 22-point deficit.

Jackson put together an eye catching play at the end of the third quarter, dropping in a floating 3-point shot at the buzzer while being fouled which ultimately resulted in a 4-point play.

The Indians managed to turn things around in the second half outscoring the Lady ’Cane by 3 points. Despite the great effort, the Indians never recovered from the big deficit.

“In the second half, I thought Hillsboro came out and they battled us,” said Williams.

Saturday’s win bumps Wilmington up to a record of 4-1 in the SCOL.
