WEST JEFFERSON — Noah Morgan was the top finisher for East Clinton wrestling Dec. 29-30 at the West Jefferson Invitational.
The Astros were 18th out of 20 teams.
Morgan was fifth at 160 pounds, going 7-2 with two pins and a tech fall. In his pool, Morgan tied with Brennan Hicks from Piqua and Jared Kremer from Fairfield Local for first place with 6-1 records. Hicks was given the nod as the No. 1 seed based on team points scored. Morgan, after a bit of confusion, was determined to wrestle for fifth place, where he pinned Zach Featherston of Eastwood in 3:53, EC coach Doug Stehlin said.
Brayden Esposito (106) and Thomas Wright (170) both finished seventh in their respective weight classes.
“Morgan and Wright had good tournaments,” Stehlin said.
Stehlin said Wright’s finish was impressive “considering he moved up a weight class and battled through sickness.”
Stehlin said Morgan had a win over the top wrestler in his bracket.
